Kedarnath Dham Yatra
Kedarnath Dham Yatra Overview
Kedarnath is one of the most sacred pilgrimage destinations in India and holds immense importance in Hinduism. Located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand at an altitude of 3,583 metres (11,755 ft), the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. It is also an important part of the Chota Char Dham Yatra and the Panch Kedar circuit.
Every year, millions of devotees visit Kedarnath to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and experience the spiritual atmosphere of this holy place. Surrounded by snow-capped Himalayan peaks and situated near the Mandakini River, Kedarnath offers a unique combination of spirituality, devotion, and natural beauty.
The journey begins from Gaurikund, which is the last motorable point before Kedarnath. From here, pilgrims complete a trek of approximately 16–18 km to reach the temple. Those who are unable to trek can also choose pony, palki, or helicopter services.
The Kedarnath Dham Yatra is considered a moderate-level pilgrimage and is suitable for pilgrims, families, senior citizens, and solo travelers with reasonable fitness. The best time to visit is from May to June and September to October, when weather conditions are generally favorable.
